Well it's official.... this weekend My wonderful wife came to my office and helped me set up my new Nano-Cube 12g DX system. We added 20lbs of Live Sand and "tweaked" the stock filter system. We removed (and discarded) the Bio-balls and the Ceramic rings (it's going to be a mini-reef tank). I pulled out all 4 sponges (2ea in chamber #1 #2). Added the water and started the pump.

Over the next few days I kept one sponge in the top of chamber #1 and changed it out about every 2 hours with a fresh one just to help clear the water of floating "stuff". Each day it got better and better.

On Tuesday I ordered 22lbs of Fiji Live Rock from Live Aquaria. Wednesday afternoon it arrived in a lobster cooler wrapped in a plastic bag and wet newspaper. This may be the "normal" way to ship LR but I would have liked to have seen it with more water to help preserve & maintain life on the rock.

The LR was in larger pieces than I had hoped (and requested) when I ordered it. But it looked VERY good (condition wise) and didn't have a "bad" smell to it. Wife and I chisled it into more Nanoish pieces and added it to the tank. 22lbs is a tad much for a 12g cube but once it's cured I'll be taking some of it home to add to my 10g SW along with some Rubble for my soon to be built HOB fuge.

As of this morning the water is crystal clear and other than lack of "aqua-scaping" it looks very good. I plan to start my base-line parameter checks in a few mintues so that I can "watch" the cycle and get a feel for how the new LR affects my tank.

More to come soon...

Have a GREAT day and Happy Reefing!

Allen :)
